The story of Madelyn Hope Baker -
We have decided that even though our daughter has left her earthly body for a more Heavenly form, we can make sure her legacy lives on down here forever.
Our sweet "Hope" was born on June 1, 2011 3:18am weighing 1lb 3.8oz and 11 3/4". After a week in the hospital trying to stop labor she was born at just 24 weeks gestation due to an incompetent cervix my OB failed to treat. She was on a ventilator and thriving in the NICU. She had us all amazed. She was such a little firecracker!! I truly thought she was going to be my miracle story. I guess in a way she still is. She was perfect in every way and her only medical problems were related to her extreme prematurity. Due to being premature a duct in her heart (PDA) did not close at birth as it does in a full term infant. This caused her some problems and set backs but we held the faith. It wasnt until she developed NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis) that her fate had began to turn in the wrong direction. Sadly despite surgery and other drastic measures taken by Cincinnati Childrens Hospital NICU our little Angel grew her wings on June 29, 2011. She had a very peaceful passing and spent her last hours in mommy and daddys arms and surrounded by people who loved her. As hard as it as been to say goodbye for now to our little girl, it brings some sort of peace to our hearts to be able to carry on her legacy in such a way as to benefit others. We are certain it is what she would want. While I certainly wish we could change the outcome of her story, we are so very blessed that our Lord has chosen us to be her parents.
This is merely the beginning of the legacy she will leave behind.... Click on the Hopes Legacy NICU Donation Program tab above to see how we are giving back to the community in her honor.
Isaiah 49:14 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.
